TMHSWP: A Tough Radiation Day

It took a lot of work, a lot of valarian, lots of hugs, a long break with an icepack over an office visit of over three hours, but we got Mother Hen through the x-rays! Once they were done, then she could finally have a radiation treatment. I felt sorry for the technicians at the office. In the middle of this they had one of their machines break down, and suddenly they had to try and fit a waiting room of people into the schedule of only one machine. In the midst of this, they had to fit Mother Hen.

Afterwards we took her to a Sizzler salad bar and she ate herself full of all sorts of good healthy things. It helped her calm down after the ordeal. Right now she’s much calmer and finally starting to relax. Thank goodness we’ll have a simple and fast office visits from this point on. Well, so long as their other machine keeps operating (the other machine should be repaired tomorrow or the next day).

The revision continues to go well. I’d forgotten some of what I wrote, and I’ve been laughing my way through it. Which is good! Mother Hen will love reading it when it’s done.

TMHSWP: Finishing and Starting the Next Project

“The String Weaver” comment heard today about the Jitnee: They’re talking space cats that travel dimensions! What’s not to like?

The doctor rejected all the x-rays they did on Friday, so she has to start all of them over again. She just started shaking and crying. We went back, talked to a nurse who then went to talk to the doctor . They can’t do any treatments until the x-rays are done, and she was too shaky to do them today, so we brought her home with a plan for how to handle tomorrow. Tomorrow the doctor will be directly in the office, too.

In other news, I realized that the Salmon Run outlines could not be finished until I re-read the first draft of Book 7. As I brought out the Scrivener project, I realized how fast I could revise this book.

When I mentioned the possibility to Mother Hen, she loved it! She adores the Salmon Run series, too. For her, it’s like visiting a little piece of home, of the Alaska we all still miss so much.

So, tonight I organized the revision notes and started the revision. The book is now over six thousand words into a story I figure will end up somewhere around 35k. I’m having a blast with it. I forgot some of these conversations and have laughed out loud. Hopefully the fans of the series out there will get as much of a kick out of it.

TMHSWP: Book 4 Revision Done!

Over the past two days I worked on the final edit. In the process I added a little over five hundred words and the novel went a fudge over 93k.

It’s finally done!

Wow. I still can’t believe how fast this one went. I really like the story. A lot happens in this one which really propels the series forward.

I’m now pausing the revision a little bit while I work on the outlines for the next Salmon Run books. The story for the first one is now starting to become clear, but I had to use a different outline/conflict ordering process to make it happen. I don’t mind! So long as the story gets organized!

Mother Hen spent most of this weekend resting up. She really needed it. Tomorrow, she starts with the final five days of radiation. This weekend the hair really started falling out, but only in the places where the radiation beams were focused. So, lots of thick hair in most places, with big bald spots. She’s getting really good at combing out here hair to hide the bald spots. 🙂

I hope everyone else had a great long weekend!

TMHSWP: Tying Up Revision Notes

It took all day to go through the revision notes. I did manage to get most of them put into the manuscript when I did the major revision run, but there were three that were incomplete, and one that I didn’t get in at all.

Oops.

Only one of the issues caused me trouble. For most of the points, I was able to go to one chapter in the manuscript and put in the needed information, dialog, or what-have-you. The last revision point, however, required work in three different parts of the novel and accounted for most of the new words yesterday.

I didn’t mind. 92k is a great wordcount for a novel, and the additions did add needed details to the story. I think the story is the better for it.

Today I go through chapter by chapter and make sure all the tiny stuff is taken care of. Things like problem words, punctuation mistakes, and other fiddly stuff. There are also two chapters I want to take a look at, as I’m worried they may be a little too long.

Anyway, off to get to work! I’m so excited that it’s almost done!

TMHSWP: Ahead of Schedule!

Last night, despite all the stress, I got on a roll. It started around 9pm and continued through 2am. I just couldn’t stop!

Heck, I didn’t want to stop! The story was going great. Right in the middle of the final climax. So much happening. Getting the scenes revised one after the other. So close to the end! If I could just do a little more it might just be possible…

And it was!

15,510 words of revision last night, and I finished the end of the big revision pass! A full 15 days early! I’m still amazed by that. It’s not computing.

The novel is now sitting at 90,536 words. It’s the shortest String Weaver novel so far, but a lot happens in it. There are several big questions answered in this book, as well as one big new worry. I won’t give spoilers, though. 😛

Today is all about going through the revision notes to make sure I didn’t miss anything in them. I figure that will take several hours, depending on how many missing aspects I catch and how complicated they are. After that, it’s the chapter-by-chapter final check before getting it off to the editor!

Mother Hen is still a little shaky and emotional today, but she did get a really good night’s sleep. Downside is that another big patch of hair fell out. No way that can’t affect the self-esteem. We’re giving her lots of hugs and reminding her that true beauty comes from within. She knows this. After all, she taught it to her children, but this is part of the natural grieving process of what she’s going through.

She’ll get through this. She has an inner strength I’ve always admired. I don’t mind giving her extra hugs right now when she needs it. She’s been more than generous with hugs when I’ve needed them.

Additional notes:

Tobe, thank you for the lovely poem. You made Mother Hen’s day. She loves it!

Grey, Mother Hen still wonders about your brain, but absolutely loves your humor!

Necia Phoenix, thank you for the funny pictures. I’ve been sharing them with Mother Hen.

Adora, Connie, and Ashe, thank you for all the virtual hugs you’ve given Mother Hen, as well as making her feel so welcome when she comes into Forward Motion chat. It means more than we can say.

Forward Motion members in general (Zette, Moosey, Sue, AWG, and so many others), thank you as well. Your support has meant so much.

And of course to everyone else how has sent notes, helped with donations, and helped in other ways. Thank you!
