The Dragons are Keening

The science fiction and fantasy world was lost something wonderful. Anne McCaffrey, the author who brought us the Pern, Rowen, Crystal Singer, and so many other series and stories has passed away. Anne was a wonderful writer who inspired me as a teen for her wonderful worlds, character development, fight sequences (learned SO much), and plain brilliant storytelling. On top of that, she was quite gracious to other writers and her fans.

So, along with the Dragons who must surely be arching towards the sky, I keen and mourn her passing. She will be greatly missed.

  1. Word is the news was held up because one of her family was in transit to spend the holiday with her, they didn’t want him to hear it on the evening news. I can understand.

She wasn’t my favorite author but I did enjoy many of her works. She gave us many wonderful worlds and memorable characters in her stories and her willingness to allow fans to play in those worlds gave thousands of would-be writers a place to practice their skills. I am grateful for what she gave us and am very sorry she has gone *between*.

  2. Even though I was aware of her failing health for a long time, it was still a shock to hear of Anne’s passing.

What a wonderful collection of stories she left for us. I want to read every story one more time to regain that feeling of living life to the fullest in her worlds.

    • Welcome to the site, Ruth.

Yes, one of the greats is gone. Truly sad. I see the first Pern Trilogy is moving up in the sales ranks at Amazon. I know I’m feeling the need to reread all of it!
